April 16th is National Golf Day, when we celebrate the economic, social, and charitable impact of the game of golf in the United States.
Today is National Golf Day and American Golf is proud to be a part of an industry that supports millions of families across the country and provides opportunities for individuals from all walks of life. Our friends over at We Are Golf have put together some great research analyzing the impact of the game in the US:
- Golf is a $70 billion dollar industry, providing 2 million jobs with wage incomes over $55 billion. This is more than spectator sports and the performing arts industries combined.
- Golf accounted for almost $4 billion in charitable donations in 2011.
- Golf is great way to improve health- 18 holes is equivalent to walking 5 miles and burns roughly 2,000 calories.
- Golf has a huge environmental impact, accounting for 2 million acres of green space.
