Cold weather and loud crowds in the desert

February 4th, 2011 by

The PGA Tour is visiting the TPC Scottsdale this week for the craziest golf tournament in the world. Somewhere near 100,000 fans a day will swarm the stadium style course this week and create an atmosphere that is not equaled. The crowds are a mix of college students, tourists, and rowdy locals who are not necessarily there to watch golf. The crowds can be so dense at some points it is nearly impossible to see any of the on course action. It is a week that will result in low scores and most likely a several dozen arrests.

The Scottsdale area has been hit with freezing overnight temperatures this week causing long delays. So far the cool weather has not hurt the scoring as Dustin Johnson leads after a first round 64, with a rather strong field lurking close behind. The tournament has notoriously close finishes and with should finish up just after the Super Bowl kickoff on Sunday.
