Job summary:

Maintains golf course conditions and other landscaped areas by managing maintenance staff.  Note: Use of this title requires RD and HR approval and is used only at properties with more than one golf course and/or a Regional Superintendent on staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the appearance and safety of the course and landscaped areas by supervising the maintenance staff in: maintaining greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, bodies of water, roughs, maintenance shop, golf carts and clubhouse; treating agronomic issues; performing irrigation; maintaining a wide variety of turf grasses in extreme climatic conditions; managing course preparations for tournament and daily play; integrating environmental programs specializing in IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
  • Manage maintenance staff job results by selecting, training, scheduling and evaluating performance of maintenance staff, providing corrective action as needed; holding monthly safety meetings to ensure the highest level of safety
  • Ensure the safe functioning of equipment by supervising maintenance of power tools and irrigation equipment
  • Provide effective administration of department by assisting Superintendent in developing and executing annual maintenance plan and budget for the course; tracking maintenance expenses including payroll, supplies, fertilizer, chemicals, etc.; keeping accurate maintenance records and developing required maintenance reports; ordering parts, supplies and equipment as needed

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Primary duty is management, however the Maintenance Manager may be required to perform limited manual labor such as repairing equipment, spraying or fertilizing course greens, etc.
  • Resolve technical maintenance problems with the assistance of the Superintendent
  • Implement and support all AGC initiatives and programs as requested by management

Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • 4-year college degree in Agronomy, Horticulture or related field
  • 3 years experience in golf course maintenance
  • 1-2 years experience in personnel management
  • Certification for pesticide management and licensed for the application of pesticide chemicals
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Proficient mechanical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management
  • Solid time management, organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to effectively build and foster a team environment
  • Valid driver’s license
