Job summary:

Serves members and guests by providing information about food and beverage products, presenting selections and maintaining dining room ambiance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Utilize “ACE Service Absolutes” by acknowledging, greeting and thanking all members and guests

  • Prepare room for dining by maintaining cleanliness of table linens, table settings, glassware, windowsills, carpets, counters, floors, storage areas and service refrigerators. Checking inventory levels and restocking items to ensure sufficient supply throughout the day, utilizing inventory efficiently to limit waste

  • Assist members and guests in food and beverage selection by offering cocktails or other beverages, describing special offerings or menu changes, suggesting appetizers or specific courses, identifying appropriate wine pairings, answering food preparation questions

  • Protect the organization, the members and the guests by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcohol beverage control policies including confirming legal drinking age and discontinuing service to intoxicated guests.

  • Relay orders to bar and kitchen as appropriate by recording member/guest selections, identifying any special requests and keying orders into register

  • Serve orders by picking up and delivering choices to the appropriate member or guest, delivering accompaniments, providing garnishes, ensuring that all orders meet proper presentation and quality standards

  • Ensure an enjoyable dining experience by inquiring as to member or guest satisfaction, anticipate additional needs or further requests, suggest dessert, aperitif or coffee

  • Maintain table settings by removing courses as completed, replacing utensils as needed, refilling water, wine or coffee

  • Obtain revenue by totaling charges, issuing bill and collecting payment

  • Ensure smooth dining room operation by maintaining a clean and orderly food and beverage area, removing trash throughout the day, assisting bussers by stocking workstations and bussing or resetting tables as needed as well as informing kitchen staff (and management as needed) of special requests and supply shortages

  • Maintain familiarity with food and beverage offerings in order to impart knowledge to members and guests

  • Attend pre-shift “line-ups” in order to be aware of course events, large parties and reservations that may affect the food and beverage operation

  • Contribute to team effort by completing all side work as assigned

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  • May perform tableside food preparation including carving meats, boning fish and fowl, preparing flaming dishes and desserts

  • May present, open and pour wine or mix and serve various alcoholic drinks

  • May be requested to assist in other areas of food and beverage service including: BBQ station, banquet setup and service, service in the patio area, washing dishes, packaging food for take-out, etc.

  • May check in deliveries and sign off on products received

  • May verify amount in cash drawer and balance drawer against receipts

  • May be required to train other food servers

  • Implement and support all AGC initiatives and programs as requested by management

 

Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred

  • One year of experience in a fast-paced, food service environment preferred

  • Must be of legal age to sell and serve alcoholic beverages, applicable state card or certificate must be provided if required by state law

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, perform multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently

  • Experience handling cash and credit card transactions

  • Demonstrate an understanding of food, food ingredients, food preparation methods, proper food storage, sanitation requirements and basic bar terminology

  • Knowledge of sales techniques

  • Knowledge of applicable liquor and smoking laws

  • Ability to determine signs of intoxication

  • Ability to use equipment including: toaster, coffee maker and drink dispenser

  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures

  • Effective communication skills (written and oral), strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Basic math skills and ability to operate: calculator, cash register and/or point of sale system
