Zombie Walk Glowball in Long Beach Celebrates Halloween

Golfers decked out as zombies and goblins playing golf at night using glowing golf balls. It takes place Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Recreation Park Golf Course 9 in Long Beach, California.

“This will be the first year we’ve held the Zombie Walk Glowball,” said Alyssa Tavai, course general manager. Tavai said the 9-hole course, located at 5000 East 7th Street, has a special event every month, and its October offering will be a Halloween theme.

“The golfers play at night,” she explained. “and each golfer gets glow balls to play with, and a glow necklace to wear. The course is lit up with glow sticks.”

Opened in 1925, Recreation Golf Course 9 is situated near the 18-hole course in Recreation Park known as “Big Rec.”  The 9-hole course is locally referred to as “Little Rec.” Both courses are owned by the City of Long Beach.

Zombie Walk Glowball includes contest holes, a best-dressed zombie competition, prizes, and food and refreshments for hungry golfing ghouls. “We’ll even feed you if you’re not yet craving human flesh,” event organizers joked.
Recreation Park Golf Course 9 has four par-4 holes, with the longest at 348 yards, and five par-3 holes ranging from 94-164 yards.

“It’s a pretty flat course for the most part,” a clubhouse official said, “but you do see some hills. Some of the greens are pretty severe in the way they break. You can play the whole course in about two hours.”

To sign up for the Zombie Walk Glowball event, interested golfers should call the Recreation Park Golf Course 9 at (562) 438-4012. Happy Halloween!
