Westchester Golf Course

By Tyler Pringle

Resting in the shadow of LAX, Westchester Golf Course might be the best golf value in Los Angeles. Since opening in 1966, Westchester Golf Course has been a great place to learn to play the game, as well as hone your skills at their top-notch practice facilites.

If you’re looking to improve your game, Westchester is the place to help take your skills to the next level. The recently upgraded driving range is open until 10 p.m. daily, and allows for hitting off the grass on weekends. Additionally, unlike other driving ranges in the area, Westchester does not use limited flight golf balls, which do not fly true distances on longer clubs.

If you’re looking to improve your touch around the greens, Westchester has 2 putting greens, a chipping green, and a greenside bunker to practice your sand saves.

Similar to the practice facilities, the course is also lit at night so golfers can continue playing well after the sun goes down. The par 64, 18-hole layout features a variety of fair and challenging holes to test all facets of the golfer’s game. Holes 12, 13, and 15 play right alongside LAX and offer great views of planes coming in and out of the busy airport. For available tee times, click here.

The par 4, 2nd hole features the only water hazard on the course. The pond in front of the green is a favorite spot among the local ducks and geese that love heckling golfers. Longer hitters may attempt to  drive the green, although a 265 yard carry is needed to clear the water. Most players lay up short of the pond and hit a wedge onto the green.

The backside features the only par 5 on the course at the 15th hole. Although the hole is not terribly long, it is well protected. A large tree guards the left side of the fairways and out-of-bounds is on the right side. The large, well-bunkered green features several undulations that make for some very interesting pin placements. Approach shots generally play straight downwind, which can make judging the distance a challenge.

Local golfers love Westchester’s laid back, blue-collar attitude, great services, and affordable rates. For discount tee times, golfers can find the best online rates at GOLFZING.
