After years of hearsay that Michael Jordan might be making his way into the golf shoe business, it has finally been confirmed that the basketball great will in fact be doing so. According to Tim Newcomb of Sports Illustrated, the first version of shoes with the iconic jump-man logo will be released later this month. The look of the shoe is much different than some of the variations we’ve seen Keegan Bradley wear on tour in the past. Instead, the first release of Jordan golf shoes will arrive in black and grey colors, display the silhouette of the Jordan Flight Runner 2, and have TRI-LOK soft spikes for a nice quality grip on the greens.
Initial speculation regarding the Jordan golf shoes occurred a little over a year ago when MJ’s youngest son Marcus posted a photo of some glossy shoes on his Twitter account. Closer observations revealed that the sneaker he wore was a replica of the Jordan Is, the first footgear Jordan wore in the NBA. But that wasn’t the only thing that got the golf universe excited. It was the text of Marcus Jordan’s tweet, which simply said, “The future.”
Even before the popular tweet by the younger Jordan, golf circles knew it was only a matter of time when the Jordan brand would be visible on the links. The primary reason for such an assumption is because of the passion that His Airness has demonstrated for the game of golf during the last 30 years. Momentum regarding shoe speculation continued when Jordan’s neighbor and playing partner Bradley started showcasing custom Jordan golf shoes on his social media accounts and at various tournaments he played in.

According to Forbes, Jordan profited nearly $100 million of the $4.2 billion in U.S. retail basketball sales in 2014. While it has been a dozen years since MJ last played in the NBA, he is still the man when it comes to fresh kicks. I can sure see myself teeing off with a pair of J’s on a nice, sunny day with a round full of birdies. Can you?
