If your appetite can take it, we’re now less than 24 hours away from satisfying our cravings for turkey, dressing, mac ‘n cheese, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and whatever else we can find at the dinner table. While stuffing our faces with delicious food and being around the smiling faces of our loved ones is awesome, I know there’s a group of us that crave a great game of golf on turkey day, and I can’t blame you. So here’s a Thanksgiving golfer’s checklist to get you ready in case you find time for a Thanksgiving tee time.
1. Play a round of golf after 12:00 p.m.
Thanksgiving makes for a beautiful day to play golf. The air smells better, food tastes better, and our mood is usually upbeat. So how about carrying this momentum to a course? It is more than likely that several golf clubs will have specials. If you’re looking to golf in Orange County, then you might want to take a look at Lake Forest Golf & Practice Center. If you show their Pro Shop star Juan their offer of “Two for One Golf” for the afternoon offer from Facebook tomorrow, you’ll be able to take a friend or family member out on the course for free.
Another special offer comes from Tecolote Canyon Golf Course, will appeal to our friends who are in San Diego for the holidays. Tec is giving players that mention their Facebook post a deal which includes green fee, cart fee, and two drinks for only $15.50 per person. Yeah, the air is definitely smelling better.
2. Watch some professional football
We know that a lot of our golfers enjoy football too, so it had to make our Thanksgiving golfer’s checklist. The usual suspects that play on this holiday such as the Cowboys and Lions both make their annual appearances in separate games, and both teams are good this year, which should make the viewing experience a bit more pleasant than in recent memory. Joining the party are the Eagles, Bears, Seahawks, and 49ers. Below is the complete schedule of pigskin action for turkey day:
- Chicago at Detroit – 12:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
- Philadelphia at Dallas 4:30 p.m. ET (Fox)
- Seattle at San Francisco 8:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
3. 1962 U.S. Open – Jack’s First Major
The USGA will be re-broadcasting its documentary, “1962 U.S. Open: Jack’s First Major,” on Fox at 3:00 p.m. ET this Thanksgiving. The hour-long documentary looks at Jack Nicklaus’ victory over Arnold Palmer at Oakmont Country Club, which was his first major and perhaps the event that started the momentum for perhaps golf’s greatest career.

We at American Golf Corporation want to wish all of the guests who come visit our properties throughout the country a Happy Thanksgiving! Let us know in the comments if you did anything that is on our Thanksgiving golfer’s checklist. Until then, enjoy the holiday and perhaps even the madness and savings of the following Black Friday!
