SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — On July 4, 2026, Monarch Bay Golf Club and the City of San Leandro partnered to host a free community celebration honoring America’s 250th Anniversary. The event drew thousands of residents, families, and visitors for an afternoon of live music, food, entertainment, and community activities, underscoring the role public golf facilities can play as gathering spaces for the communities they serve.

The celebration was the product of months of planning and coordination among the City of San Leandro, Monarch Bay Golf Club, American Golf Corporation leadership, and a wide range of community partners. Every element of the event — from logistics and programming to food service, facility preparation, and guest experience — reflected a shared commitment to delivering a first-class experience for the community.
“Monarch Bay is one of the very best community events I’ve experienced in more than 500 events throughout my career, including ones at Brookside Golf Club and the Rose Bowl,” said David Sams, Municipal Golf Operations Advisor for the City of San Leandro. “The planning, teamwork, professionalism, and dedication that went into this event were exceptional, and it showed in the experience our residents had.”
“Days like this are exactly why we do this work,” said Al Weinhold, General Manager of Monarch Bay Golf Club. “Seeing thousands of families come together on our grounds to celebrate our country and their community was a proud moment for our entire team. It’s a reminder that Monarch Bay is more than a golf course — it’s a place where San Leandro comes together.”
Feedback from residents, visitors, City leadership, and event partners was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the value of investing in experiences that build lasting community goodwill.

The event also reflects the strength of the partnership between American Golf and the City of San Leandro — a relationship built on trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to serving local residents. Together, the two organizations demonstrated what is possible when a city and its golf facility work in service of their community, and they are looking ahead to how future events can build on that momentum.
The City of San Leandro, American Golf Corporation, Monarch Bay staff, volunteers, sponsors, entertainers, and community partners all contributed to making the day a success — one that honored America’s 250th Anniversary while highlighting the positive impact strong municipal partnerships can have on the communities they serve.
