Pelham Bay Golf Course Continues 30-Year Tradition as Host of the MET Junior PGA NYC Championship

American Golf Corporation-operated Bronx facility welcomes 115 junior golfers for two days of championship competition, reinforcing its commitment to growing the game across NYC’s public courses

BRONX, N.Y. — Pelham Bay Golf Course, part of Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses and proudly operated by American Golf Corporation, once again served as host of the MET Junior PGA NYC Championship on July 20-21, extending a tradition that now spans more than 30 years. The championship brought together 115 of the Metropolitan area’s top junior golfers for two days of high-level competition on one of New York City’s most historic public courses.

This year’s field competed across four divisions:

  • Future Series Boys & Girls (36-hole Championship)
  • Players Tour Boys 15-18
  • Players Tour Boys 12-14
  • Players Tour Girls 12-18

Conditions tested every competitor. Monday brought clear skies and ideal scoring weather, while Tuesday’s rounds were played through periods of steady rain. Through it all, players showed the focus, resilience, and sportsmanship that have become a hallmark of the event.

A Full-Circle Moment

For Rocco Miano, General Manager of Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses, hosting this year’s championship carried special meaning.

“Hosting the MET Junior PGA NYC Championship at Pelham Bay Golf Course is something that means a great deal to me personally. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to compete in this very championship, so seeing today’s juniors walk the same fairways is incredibly rewarding. It’s a full-circle moment, and we’re proud to provide a first-class experience for the next generation of golfers.”

“This championship is about much more than competition,” Miano added. “It’s an opportunity for young golfers to challenge themselves, build friendships, and experience tournament golf at a high level. We appreciate the MET PGA for trusting our team to host such an important event and look forward to welcoming these players back in the future.”

A Team Effort, Start to Finish

Presenting a championship-caliber course for the region’s best junior golfers doesn’t happen by chance. In the weeks leading up to the event, the Pelham Bay maintenance and operations team focused on preparing the course to championship standards — work that carries a deep sense of pride for the staff who put it in.

Hosting the event showcases Pelham Bay as a venue capable of handling the Metropolitan Section’s premier junior competition, and it reflects the broader investment American Golf has made in the facility. It also sends a clear message to the community: public golf facilities can deliver the same exceptional playing conditions and first-class tournament experience found at any private club.

In the days following the championship, that pride carries forward. Staff take satisfaction in seeing Pelham Bay recognized as the home of one of the region’s premier junior events — and hope it inspires more young golfers throughout New York City to pursue competitive golf and keep the game growing.

Why Pelham Bay

Pelham Bay Golf Course is a fitting home for the MET Junior PGA NYC Championship because it reflects everything American Golf Corporation stands for: growing the game while delivering a championship-caliber experience. As one of New York City’s most historic public courses, Pelham Bay gives junior golfers the chance to compete on a challenging championship layout while remaining accessible to players and families across the Metropolitan area — a combination of history, location, and quality that makes it an ideal venue for one of the region’s premier junior events.

“At American Golf, we believe public golf should provide the same level of experience and professionalism as any private club. Hosting the MET Junior PGA NYC Championship is an opportunity to showcase what’s possible when a dedicated team is committed to creating exceptional playing conditions and memorable experiences for every golfer.”

Looking Ahead

On behalf of everyone at Pelham Bay Golf Course, American Golf Corporation extends its thanks to the Metropolitan PGA Section Junior Tour, tournament officials, volunteers, parents, and the course’s maintenance and operations teams, whose dedication ensured the course was in outstanding condition and the event ran smoothly across both days. Most importantly, congratulations to all 115 competitors — their hard work, determination, and love for the game were evident throughout the championship.

“Our goal is to continue partnering with the Metropolitan PGA and other organizations to provide competitive opportunities that inspire the next generation of golfers. We are honored to welcome the MET Junior PGA NYC Championship back to Pelham Bay next year.”
